Armie Hammer Put Marvel Entertainment On Blast Over Their Trump Loving Chairman

August 9, 2019 / Posted by:

When Armie Hammer tweets, things can either go very wrong, like when he got all preachy about Stan Lee, or they can go mildly amusing, like when he read James Woods for filth. Today, he actually struck a a pretty good middle ground. In the wake of recent calls to boycott Equinox and SoulCycle for supporting Donald Trump, Armie #tooktotwitter to suggest that Marvel Entertainment also deserves some side-eye because of chairman Isaac Perlmutter’s financial support, and political ties to Trump. But let’s be real, people giving up their beloved Marvel shit because of Trump is as likely as all the fish in the ocean giving up water because it’s wet. I know that simile is sweaty, but you know what I mean!

Here’s the tweet in which Armie doesn’t actually call for a Marvel boycott, I guess he’s not that naive, but instead offers some food for thought.

Perlmutter used to be the CEO of Marvel Entertainment, but is now the chairman. And he no longer oversees Marvel Studios, where the movies get made. But his fingers are all over Marvel TV and Marvel Comics. As IndieWire notes, Armie’s absolutely correct about Perlmutter being all the way up Trump’s butthole.

Perlmutter has long shown Trump financial support, donating $1 million to Trump’s wounded veterans initiative in 2016 when Trump was still running for president. Perlmutter’s wife, Laura, was a member of Trump’s Inauguration committee. The Washington Post has referred to Perlmutter as Trump’s “Mar-a-Lago pal and Department of Veterans Affairs adviser.”

Additionally, according to Fast Company, Perlmutter has a history of making sexist and racist comments and business decisions.

At Marvel, Perlmutter has a history of reportedly making the kind of racist remarks that have gotten others fired. When Don Cheadle was hired to replace Terrence Howard in Iron Man, Perlmutter allegedly told a Disney consumer products executive that no one would notice because black people “look the same.” Following the episode, three female African-American executives in consumer products departed Disney with settlements after complaining about Perlmutter.

Fast Company also suggests that Marvel has made a significant effort to minimize Perlmutter’s profile with the company.

Marvel executives increasingly try to create distance from Perlmutter. One source insisted that he has a “ceremonial title” at Marvel and is “not much of a presence,” despite being the head of Marvel’s TV and publishing arms.

What a bunch of numbnuts. If Marvel only just invited Armie to one of their little spandex parties, he probably wouldn’t be blowing their shit up on Twitter. But as I said before, water is wet, and the world loves their Marvel shit more than SoulCycle, Equinox and Chick-Fil-A put together!
