Kelly McGillis Wasn’t Asked To Be In “Top Gun 2: Maverick” But Thinks She’s Too Old And Fat Anyway

I doubt anybody will be surprised to learn that 62-year-old Kelly McGillis will not be having steamy, curtain billowing, silhouette sex with Tom Cruise in the upcoming Top Gun 2: The Legend Of Maverick’s Lifts. But can you believe they never even asked her to participate? I mean, yes, it’s not surprising, but it is exceedingly rude. Good thing Kelly has neither the time nor the inclination to get anywhere near the danger zone again.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kelly says she’s “old and fat” which does not vibe with “that whole scene” where looking your actual age is a scarier thought than having 20 MiGs bearing down on you at 2,000 mph and you suddenly realize you left all your injectables back at base. The need for speed < the need for a wrinkle free forehead and the jawline of a much younger man.

Kelly opted out of Hollywood years before and now lives in North Carolina spending time with her kids after getting sober and embarking ‘“on a journey to figure out who the hell’ she was” which apparently didn’t include being “astrophysicist and Top Gun instructor Charlie Blackwood” ever again. “I’m old and I’m fat and I look age-appropriate for what my age is, and that is not what that whole scene is about. I’d much rather feel absolutely secure in my skin and who and what I am at my age, as opposed to placing a value on all that other stuff.”

When asked if she’s planning to see the film, McGillis didn’t seem too interested either way. “I’m not racing to the theater, and I’m not racing away from the theater to see it,” she said. “It’s just not on my little list of things that I would like to get done.” And before you ask: no, she hasn’t seen the trailer, either.

Kelly also said that she doesn’t keep in touch with any of her Top Gun co-stars and it doesn’t seem like she’s been losing any sleep over it, adding “movies are odd things. I don’t really keep in touch with anybody“. But like most people who are unbothered, Kelly had some vaguely encouraging words for Jennifer Connelly whom 57-year-old Tom will deign to pretend kiss in Top Gun 2: Those Tiny Wrinkles You See Were Caused By G-Force, OK?

When asked what she thinks about Connelly stepping in as Maverick’s love interest, McGillis told us that although she doesn’t know the 48-year-old actress, she is “so glad that she got that opportunity.”

“I’m glad for her,” she added.

Kelly was equally nonplussed about the possibility of being part of any publicity or fanfare surrounding the sequel.

“You know what, I don’t know how to answer that because one, it hasn’t happened,” McGillis said when asked if she would attend any of the promotional events surrounding the new film. “Two, if and when it did happen, I would have to assess where I am, what I’m doing, what’s going on … I can’t project what I would or wouldn’t do in the future. I have no idea because I don’t know where I’ll be.”

So, sorry Top Gun, sounds like she’s just not that into you.
