Lil Nas X Vetoed Dueting With Pete Buttigieg On “Old Town Road”

So much for gay solidarity! Newly out rapper Lil Nas X declined dueting with openly gay Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg on his hit song “Old Town Road” for a BuzzFeed event. Kudos to Lil Nas X because that song has replaced “Shallow” as the song most likely to be playing wherever the hell you go and it needs to stop playing.
The Daily Beast reports that Lil Nas X headlined BuzzFeed’s Internet Live event on Thursday night which also included “internet celebrities, Broadway singers, and the stars of Jersey Shore” in addition to BuzzFeed’s editor-in-chief Ben Smith interviewing NYC mayor (and Pete’s fellow Dem presidential candidate) Bill De Blasio. And yes, Lil Nas X would have rather shared the stage with Snooki than Pete Buttigieg. Gays are so catty when it comes to sharing the spotlight! One gay per event, please!
The Daily Beast has learned that BuzzFeed was in talks to include Buttigieg, the openly gay South Bend mayor who has catapulted to notoriety and early success in the Democratic primary.
Buttigieg was pitched on a preliminary idea of appearing via video, reciting the lyrics to “Old Town Road” in some form of a collaboration with the surging pop star. But according to sources, the plan was foiled when Lil Nas X rejected the proposal.
Word is that Lil Nas X has no problem with Petey per se. He just didn’t want to be seen as endorsing any particular presidential candidate. Oh, fess’ up, Lil Nas X. If Marianne Williamson’s crazy ass had wanted to do this, you would have had her flown in and given a police escort to the stage, nevermind a video call-in!
