Taylor Swift And Ariana Grande Lead The MTV VMA Nominations

July 23, 2019 / Posted by:

The MTV VMA nominations were released today, and both Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande lead the nominations with 10 each. Scooter Braun must feel so conflicted. On one hand, it means there’s a very good chance one of his best clients will win and say, “Thank you for helping me sing my truth, Scooter.” On the other hand, it also means his most vocal enemy might storm the stage, rip the mic out of her hand, and channel her own MTV drama of years past by hissing, “Imma let you finish, but Scooter Braun is the shadiest liar of all time!“.

Billboard reports that both Taylor and Ariana were nominated for many of the same awards, like Video of the Year and Song of the Year. Taylor got Video and Song of the yYar nominations for You Need To Calm Down, her attempt at a gay rights anthem featuring a video that celebrates her friendship with Katy Perry. Ariana’s Video and Song of the year nominations were for thank u, next, which featured Ariana desecrating the sacred ground of Legally Blonde and Mean Girls.

The 2019 MTV VMAs will air on August 26th, so that leaves Taylor plenty of time to prepare her acceptance speeches. And by prepare, I mean prepare to call a bitch out. I’m assuming she’ll be given at least one award. I doubt Taylor would leave her comfortable den of cats to waste three hours sitting in an uncomfortable fold-down chair for nothing. I just wonder how she’ll address the Scooter situation. I know she loves to avoid naming names, so I bet she’ll clutch her moon man award and exclaim,”This means so much! It’s mine, all mine! And no one can buy it out from under my nose for $300 million LIKE SOME THINGS IN MY LIFE.

Other artists who received nominations today were LGBT-yee haw icon Lil Nas X (with eight nominations) and 2019’s version of Lorde, Billie Eilish (with nine nominations). Halsey follows with six nominations, while Shawn Mendes earned five. There are also two new categories this year: Best K-Pop and Video For Good. Best K-pop is self explanatory, but Video For Good is basically videos with a message.

And because you can’t hold an award show in 2019 without nominating Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s song Shallow, they were both nominated for Song of the Year and Best Collaboration.  Here’s the list of nominees.
