Ben Affleck And Matt Damon Will Reunite To Play 14th Century Knights In A Movie

After going through some personal life messiness over the past few years (proof of which now takes up permanent real estate on his back), it appears Ben Affleck has decided to take his life in a new direction. And apparently that direction is backwards, all the way to the late-90s and early-2000s. First Ben Affleck made up with his former friend and seven-time director Kevin Smith after a decade of not speaking. Now Deadline is reporting that Ben will do another movie with Matt Damon.

Ridley Scott is currently working on a revenge film titled The Last Duel,  which will star Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. Ben and Matt will produce and also write the script, along with screenwriter Nicole Holofcener. This will be the second film written by Ben and Matt, after 1997’s Good Will Hunting. The last film they acted in together was 2002’s The Third Wheel.

When I saw that Ben and Matt were rumored to appear in a revenge film they co-wrote, I was hoping it would be the harrowing tale of how a heartbroken and vindictive Ben got revenge on a two-timing Matt by hooking up with Jimmy Kimmel. But that’s not what it’s about.

The Last Duel is set in 14th Century France about two best friends who become enemies after one returns from war and discovers his wife has been raped by the other. The two men are then set to duel to the death, with the winner being whoever lives. The book the script is based on was bought by Fox years ago. Disney now owns Fox, which means this could potentially be a Disney movie. Or, literally the darkest Disney movie since Bambi watched his mom get pumped full of buckshot.

Ben and Matt haven’t confirmed their involvement in the film, but Deadline points out that Matt was photographed recently carrying a script for the project.

I know I joked earlier about Ben Affleck returning to his roots, but he’s really outdoing himself. Co-writing a movie with Matt Damon is just about as “Old Ben Affleck” as you can get. Next thing you know, he’s going to be pulling his favorite boxy black leather blazer out of the closet. But then he’ll sadly return it to the hanger once he realizes his buff post-Batman body will surely bust open all the seams.
