Today’s bleak reminder that time is fleeting and goes way too fast is that it’s Prince George’s sixth birthday. And as usual, Kensington Palace has released a few pictures of Prince George in honor of his birthday. I wish Kensington Palace had also tweeted a note that they didn’t run these pics through some king of age progression app. Because in only 365 days, Prince George appears to have gone from someone who claps merrily at the sight of a choo choo train to a character from Riverdale Junior High.
I’m sure that hair is the result of running around the palace. But I also want to believe he was give permission to use some styling mousse as a special big boy birthday treat from Mumsy, and he applied it enthusiastically while goading his father. “Oi Daddy, what a wonderful feeling! I wish I could describe it to you, but I just can’t find the words, mate.”
Kensington Palace released three pictures of George in honor of his birthday. The one of George in his preppy little green polo was taken by a photographer, but the second and third were taken by Duchess Kate in the KP gardens.
George is the future King of England, but even he can’t escape the classic childhood birthday picture featuring a mouth with some missing teeth. Royals, they’re just like us! Except not really. Because I too am missing some teeth in my six birthday pictures. But George’s pictures were taken while on vacation on a private Caribbean island. Whereas my sixth birthday pictures were taken in a wood-paneled basement in the Ontario suburbs, while wearing some off-brand Gitano outfit with melted Push-Pop spilled down the front.
Here are the two shots Kate took, featuring George in a little England National Football Team jersey. And more shots of the tooth that probably caused the Tooth Fairy to declare bankruptcy. You know a future King like George doesn’t turn his pillow over for anything less than $10,000 a tooth.
These two photographs were taken recently in the gardens at Kensington Palace by The Duchess of Cambridge.
Thank you everyone for your lovely messages on Prince George’s Birthday! 🎂 pic.twitter.com/2LBr0wdzy1

It’s cute that Kate took some pics of George looking like a totally normal kid wearing his favorite team’s jersey. But it does set a precedence for future pictures. Kate is going to regret the day she approved a jersey when moody 15-year-old George refuses to take his birthday pic in anything but a ratty Arsenal jersey that he’s been hiding from the palace laundry maid.
