Some People Aren’t Happy That Lady Gaga Launched Her Makeup Line On Amazon

Lady Gaga’s makeup line, Haus Laboratories, hasn’t technically been released yet, and already it’s got some people rolling their eyes. And not because the collection includes a shimmery orange lipgloss named Bradley Copper. Lady Gaga exclusively launched Haus Laboratories with Amazon and the official pre-sale happened yesterday on day one of Amazon Prime Day. Amazon Prime Day was also the day that many Amazon employees decided to go on strike to protest low wages and sometimes shitty working conditions. Naturally, people have been calling Gaga out for dropping her makeup on a day when Amazon workers are fighting to make sure boxes don’t get dropped on them in the warehouse.

Amazon Prime Day is an extremely busy day for employees, which makes the decision for some US and German workers to walk out and protest low wages and working conditions even more meaningful. It’s no secret that Lady Gaga is a big fan of standing up for what you believe in. But apparently she’s also a fan of online marketplaces that represent the most accurate metaphor for American capitalism, which is maybe why she chose Amazon. She has really leaned into the Amazon partnership, like giving a makeup demonstration on Amazon Live yesterday.

On a good day, the most annoying messages clogging up Gaga’s social media mentions are requests to come to Brazil. But after tweeting about the Haus Labs pre-sale launch on Monday, her mentions were filled with people pointing out the yuckiness of partnering with Jeff Bezos and Co.

Business Insider explains that last tweet a little further, and it’s not great.

“Amazon has also faced backlash for its work with big data company Palantir, which has a $51 million contract with the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Last week, a group of Amazon employees sent an internal email calling for Amazon to stop working with Palantir and condemn ICE’s actions.”

Lady Gaga notably protested in front of Trump Tower the morning after Donald Trump was elected President, so she’s clearly not a fan. So you might think Lady Gaga wouldn’t be thrilled that every pre-sale purchase of Haus Labs lip liner presses a couple bucks into Jeff Bezos’ hand, who then allegedly uses said hand to shake the hands from a data company with a $51 million contract with ICE. But Business Insider says that a rep for Haus Labs didn’t get back to them with any comment on the matter.

Maybe Gaga will have something to say when people complain that their lip gloss kits came all crushed and busted. “Don’t worry, that’s just some slight cosmetic damage from when the Amazon worker packing your order might have decided to take a quick six-second secret break by leaning against the pallet in the warehouse.
