Katy Perry Loves Enemas And Apple Cider Vinegar So Much She Bought The Company

Katy Perry is diversifying. She’s torn a page right out of Soulja Boy’s Big Book Of Big Ideas and is slapping her name on all manner of products. Simultaneously, she’s out here promoting a very Goop on a budget lifestyle. Trust me, if you already think you know too much about Goop’s poops, you are not ready to hear about Perry’s dingleberries.

Katy was probably prompted to open up about her love of enemas as part of her “Ayurvedic eating and cleansing” routine because she and fiancé Orlando Bloom are recent investors in Bragg Live Food Products. That’s the company that ruined my childhood with their nutritional yeast, which by law, is liberally sprinkled on every bowl of popcorn served in the city of Berkeley. Bragg is also known for their apple cider vinegar and that crusty bottle of amino acids that’s been in the back of my aunt’s cabinet for the last 20 years. Katy calls that shit “mindful eating”.

According to The Daily Mail, apple cider vinegar is just part of Katy’s Panca Karma routine which she claims “basically like gets all the crap out of you, every pun intended”. Speaking on an Australian radio show, Katy says she does it to combat the olds.

The singer said: ‘I’m kind of into those type of things, like health and healing places and self-betterment places. Especially as you get older and you have longer hangovers you realise the cells in my body are dying. I did this thing called Panca Karma, it’s basically Ayurvedic eating and cleansing, you do lots of enemas.’

Panca Karma is a series of ‘karmas’ or purification procedures designed to improve health and well-being. Ayurvedic eating involves consuming whole or minimally processed foods and practising ‘mindful eating’.

I think the real reason we’re hearing about this is that Katy and Orlando are part owners of Bragg. And the history of that company and it’s charismatic founder Paul C. Bragg, is perfectly in keeping with good old fashioned, new-age, cult adjacent, snake oil sales. Wikipedia says “medical experts criticized Bragg as a food faddist and promoter of quackery” and that he lied about his age and credentials.

Apparently, Patricia Bragg gave Katy her first guitar at age 13. She had become a family friend after Katy’s mom wrote to her after reading The Miracle of Fasting. Here’s a video promoted by Bragg Food about how Patricia took over the company after Paul died. Note how Patricia and Paul’s relationship is vaguely detailed as “when they were together”.

Turns out, according to Wikipedia (“Dlisted’s journalistic integrity continues to wow” – The Pulitzer Committee), Patricia is actually Paul Bragg’s daughter in-law. She was married to his son Robert E Bragg for just a few years. When they divorced, she moved in with Paul and started telling people he was her dad. In a 2011 interview, Patricia also claimed that she had a “bachelor’s degree in biochemistry“, “a Ph.D. in health science” and a “doctor of naturopathy degree“, despite having dropped out of UC Berkeley after just 2-years.

In that same interview, Patricia said that her mom died in a car accident. However, her mom’s death certificate indicates that she died of cancer and “there is no known record of Patricia Bragg earning her PhD, contrary to the labels on most of Bragg’s products”. But to be fair, drinking vinegar and eating nutritional yeast may make you shit your pants, but I doubt it ever killed anybody. But you’ll have to excuse me if I just can’t bring myself to trust perpetually upbeat rainbow colored crusaders of any ilk.
