Pink Defended A Picture Of Her Kids Running Around Through Holocaust Memorial

A few months ago, Pink swore she was going to stop posting pictures of her kids on social media, because she was sick and tired of internet strangers judging her parenting choices and calling her a shitty mother.

Last week, Pink went back on her word and posted a picture of one of her two kids running through a sprinkler (or as she sarcastically described it, unfiltered water with no helmets). Pink must have missed the feeling of all those mommy-judging pitchforks poking her ass, because yesterday she doubled down by posting a picture of her kids running around in a Holocaust memorial. And s the internet has been dragging her for it.

Pink is currently on her Beautiful Trauma World Tour, and she recently made a stop in Berlin. While there, she took her two kids – Willow (8) and Jameson (2) – to the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, also known as simply the Holocaust Memorial. She posted a picture of Willow and Jameson running through the memorial, and obviously Pink knew people would have feelings about that, because she addressed it in the caption.

Pink claims people can chill the fuck out because she and her kids are Jewish, and argues that the artist responsible would probably be cool with her kids being kids. Pink has said many times before that she identifies as a Jewish woman. The memorial was created by Peter Eisenman, and Pink is mostly right when she says that he’d be cool with her kids running around. Peter spoke to BBC News two years ago about how to behave in a Holocaust memorial, and while he didn’t speak for all places of remembrance, he believes memorials should be experienced in any and all ways, including children tearing around the place.

“It’s a meeting place, children run around…A memorial is an everyday occurrence, it is not sacred ground. My idea was to allow as many people of different generations, in their own ways, to deal or not to deal with being in that place, and if they want to lark around I think that’s fine.”

Pink has taken her daughter to the memorial once before.

Despite Pink’s explanation, some people really felt strongly that Pink’s kids shouldn’t have been running through the memorial like the world’s most depressing version of Disneyland. I think we can all agree: Justin Bieber is the most offensive thing that has ever happened in a Holocaust memorial. But there were others who mentioned the dead would probably enjoy the sound of children, and that the memorial isn’t located on a burial ground or site where any of the atrocities of WW2 happened.

Based on Pink’s love of a confrontational Instagram caption, I’m starting to think that Pink might actually really enjoy any opportunity to keyboard battle the mommy shamers. And honestly, a picture of her kids running through a Holocaust memorial was a pretty strong choice. And she wouldn’t have posted it with that caption unless she wanted someone to get all riled up. But she could have pushed it further to maximize how many haters might slide into her DMs with the number for CPS. Not one mention of being in a public space with a possible communicable disease? Pink is slipping.
