Kim Kardashian Might Be Changing The Name Of “Kimono” To “Solutionwear”

We all watched the messy train wreck that happened when Kim Kardashian trademarked the word Kimono for her brand of shapewear. Kim tried to shut up the haters who accused her of cultural appropriation, but it wasn’t enough. Eventually the mayor of Kyoto got involved, and she was forced to change the name. Kim recently did some major damage control for her shapewear brand by way of an interview with the Wall Street Journal (via People). Say goodbye to Kimono, and hello to the generic-sounding Solutionwear.

Kim tells the WSJ that she had “innocent intentions” when she chose the name Kimono, and that she never meant to make people mad or upset with the name. I believe her. Kim’s intention is always to get attention, so it’s not like she came up with a plan more complex than that. She adds that she wasn’t really thinking when she picked the name. So Kim was just being Kim!

“You would think we would have obviously thought it through a little bit deeper. I’m the first person to say, ‘Okay, of course, I can’t believe we didn’t think of this.’ I obviously had really innocent intentions.

But, let’s listen. And I want to really listen. And I want to really take it all in.”

For anyone who thinks Kim was stealing Japanese culture for her own shameless agenda (aka making money), she wants you to know she has nothing but respect for Japan, and says it’s a place she and Kanye West love so much. She adds that Kanye was even in Japan when all of this went down. “I couldn’t have blatantly ripped off a country, my best husband was there!” might be a new one. Kim also pointed out that there could be other companies or brands in the United States with the word kimono in their name, but that more eyes are on her and her brand.

“I have to tune it out and really learn and really grow and have to realize that maybe there is a different standard. Do I feel held to a higher standard? I’ll take responsibility for that and do the right thing.”

Kim ends with saying that she decided to get into shapewear because it’s something “everyone” needs. Jameela Jamil could probably de-wrinkle a closet worth of clothes with all the steam that’s probably coming out of her ears.

As for the name, Kim tells the WSJ that they’re “working it all out.” But she teased the name Solutionwear on Twitter this morning, alongside some pictures taken for her WSJ interview.

She later clarified that her too-tight underwear and bike shorts aren’t officially named Solutionwear, but she’s testing the waters on the name.

One Twitter user commented that they like “Soultionwear,” because Kim put her soul into it. If Kim’s response is any indication, then it sounds like she’ll probably be going with some variation on Solutionwear.

Soultionwear is terribly misleading. It would imply Kim put her soul into it, and we all know in order to do so, she’d have to steal it back from Satan. And Satan is on high alert after hearing about how casually Kim will take something that’s not hers.
