The Actress Who Used A Billboard To Get An Audition With Tyler Perry Got An Audition

When I heard about actress Racquel Bailey spending $2,000 on a billboard near Tyler Perry‘s home, I dove into my couch cushions so fast looking for loose change. I even shook out all my clothes. And once I separated all the coins from the lint, I was able to come up with about half toward a Biggie Bag at Wendy’s. Who the fuck has $2,000 just laying around for billboards? With that kind of cash, Racquel should have just made her own damn movie and submitted it to Sundance. But well, what do I know, because the stunt worked.

Although Tyler initially hit Racquel with a quick side-eye and reminded her that auditioning is FREE, Racquel told both Access Hollywood and TMZ that her methods paid off. During a segment on yesterday’s TMZ Live, Racquel gave a brief update as to what happened after Tyler reacted to her billboard stunt. It was a good sign that she wasn’t doing the interview from a padded cell.

“When I put up the billboard, I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t know what was going to happen. And one thing you have to have being in this industry is thick skin. And so, he didn’t crush anything in me. At all. Nothing. In fact he put some fire underneath me.”

Racquel revealed that she was contacted by Tyler Perry Studios to submit an audition reel, which was something that had never happened prior to the creation of her billboard resume. It’s a good thing Racquel’s leap of faith worked out for her because now she can make up the financial loss by eating whatever she can get her hands on at the Kraft services table while on set, if she gets the job.  But Racquel has a warning for anyone else thinking they’ll get the same results as she did from her risky investment.

“For other actresses, maybe, this may not be the way to go. It’s not typical. It’s unconventional. Like Tyler said it could put a bad taste in directors mouths, so I’m not advising anybody to do so. But somebody did it and it was me, so…”

That last part is just enough confirmation for groups of actresses to pool their coins together and place billboards all over Atlanta. I’m not looking forward to driving down Interstate 85 in a few weeks and looking into the thirsty eyes of actors staring at the city with the caption, “Heyyyyyy Tyler…We Next?” I can already see this becoming a trend.
