Kevin Spacey Showed Up For A Pre-Trial Hearing Even Though He Didn’t Have To

I guess Kevin Spacey doesn’t really have any pressing plans this summer, so he showed up in a Nantucket court today to sneer at opposing counsel during a pre-trial hearing for his sexual assault and battery case. He wasn’t required to be there, but maybe he figured since he already had his summer weight linen suit pressed, he might as well make an appearance. Previously, Kevin had tried hard to avoid having to appear.

Kevin is accused of groping an 18-year-old busboy after his shift at the Club Car bar in Nantucket back in 2016. The alleged victim’s mom is former Boston news anchor Heather Unruh. According to TMZ, Kevin’s team used the hearing to urge the judge to compel both the alleged victim and his mom to hand over their cell phones, suggesting that data may have been deleted before records were handed over to the police.

According to TMZ:

Spacey’s legal team wants to get their hands on the alleged victim’s actual phone because they believe they can extract messages that they allege have already been deleted, and that the prosecution failed to provide in their own digital download of the data.

Spacey’s legal team also wants to get a hold of the alleged victim’s mother’s phone, because they believe that too could contain messages or information that could help Spacey’s case.

TMZ adds:

Spacey’s attorney claims that messages were deleted from the phone that made reference to the alleged victim’s “frat boy” tendencies, and he was never made aware of that until now. He also says a lot of messages and screenshots on the guy’s phone have been “cleansed” and deleted that could hurt their case. Long story short … he’s outraged.

Here’s Kevin walking into court. I have to say, he looks shook. He strode in like Frank Underwood, but after he sat down you could see him doing some deep breathing exercises to keep him from shaking like a leaf.

I guess yellow-bellied victim blaming really takes a toll on one’s nerves. Kevin’s team also requested that the judge hurry the trial because Kevin is “suffering” (via The Guardian). TMZ says:

The defense plead with a judge to send this case to trial ASAP, as they believe the prosecution is inadequately prepared to see it through … and that they filed charges prematurely without having all their ducks in a row. Unfortunately for Kevin and co., that ain’t gonna happen anytime soon … the judge says the nature of the case and the juror selection process alone doesn’t allow a trial to get started until at least the fall.

It sounds like it’s going to be a long, lonely summer for Kevin. I imagine the clambake and garden party invitations have dried up significantly, unlike that little sore on his lip.
