Somebody Check On Pamela Anderson: Julian Assange Is Facing 18 New Federal Charges

Pamela Anderson‘s best friend, Julian Assange got hit with some major charges. And I mean major like: spy-thriller-movie-major. Assange, who was recently dragged out of the Ecuadorian embassy he was staying in for the last seven years, was charged in America with 18 charges of espionage carrying up to 175 years in prison. And Pamela is taking it better than I thought she was. I haven’t seen a video meltdown… yet.

While at amfAR’s Cinema Against AIDs Gala in Cannes last night, Pamela spoke to Variety about Julian’s situation, saying:

“I hope he gets out of there, but I don’t think he’ll survive extradition. It can’t happen. It’s not even an option. We can’t have him come to America… He’s a great person and he’s doing a lot for us. We have to defend him and public opinion is really important for him and for justice. He’s kind of had this crazy smear campaign go on and we have to make sure we realize where it’s coming from. We need the press and the people to really get on his side.”

The “smear campaign” she’s referring to might be the two rape allegations against him which occurred a few months after the leak of the documents which got Assange charged now. These rape allegations in Sweden are actually why Julian was in the Ecuadorian embassy. A London court had ruled that he should be extradited to Sweden to face the charges and he’s been in the embassy ever since. His lawyers thought if he was extradited to Sweden he’d get extradited to the US from there and so it was embassy-living for him (Vox explains it all if you’re curious).

Pam wrote a lengthy piece about how the rape allegations are crap and posted it to her blog:

And since Julian has been hit with 18 new charges in the US, her timeline has blown up with the expected pro-Assange material such as:

The American Civil Liberties Union gave this statement about the new charges against Assange:

“For the first time in the history of our country, the government has brought criminal charges against a publisher for the publication of truthful information. This is an extraordinary escalation of the Trump administration’s attacks on journalism, and a direct assault on the First Amendment. It establishes a dangerous precedent that can be used to target all news organizations that hold the government accountable by publishing its secrets. And it is equally dangerous for U.S. journalists who uncover the secrets of other nations. If the US can prosecute a foreign publisher for violating our secrecy laws, there’s nothing preventing China, or Russia, from doing the same.”

Julian Assange is currently serving a 50-week sentence in Britain for jumping bail. If convicted of the rape charges in Sweden, he could get 4 years in prison there. And like I said in the beginning of this post, faces a life sentence in the  US. So for the zero of you hoping for a VIP reboot, you’re sadly never going to get your wish since Pamela Anderson will be too busy traveling the world, trying to get a job in various prison kitchens so she can continue her secret spy mission of slowly poisoning Julian Assange with vegan food.
