Why do I get the feeling the cast and crew of Fresh Off The Boat just started an open text chain with the cast and crew of Hustlers, and that text chain is about to be filled with the eye-rolling emoji and the words “Oh, I KNOW.” If this story from Page Six is correct, then my guess about everyone shit-talking over text might be too.
Constance Wu threw a Twitter tantrum last week after ABC announced they renewed Fresh Off The Boat. Constance explained that she was just pissed that the renewal meant she’d have to pass on another project. Whatever project she had to pass on might be exhaling a sigh of relief, because sources tell Page Six that Constance is a diva. Constance’s alleged too-good-for-it attitude has apparently carried over to the set of Hustlers, Jennifer Lopez’s upcoming movie about patron-scamming strippers. The cast includes both JLo and Cardi B, two full-throttle divas. And yet! A source from the set says that Constance is the biggest diva on set. Bigger than JLo even!
“[Wu] is a pain in the fucking ass. She just won’t agree to do anything. She refuses to do interviews, she won’t have visitors on her sets. It’s like a cliché. She is very talented – but all signs are pointing to a difficult diva.”
Apparently no one can escape Category-5 Storm Constance. Despite ABC President Karey Burke swearing that the cast and crew of FOTB love Constance and have no plans to replace her, one source says that Constance is the “most hated person on set.” They add that she’s rude to everybody, but mostly the crew. Another source compared Constance to ABC’s OG of bloated hubris Katherine Heigl:
“She’s a total piece of work. She thinks it’s OK to treat people badly and say out loud whatever comes to her. She’s the new Katherine Heigl, and if she’s not careful, her movie career will go in the same direction – downhill.”
Another source claims that Constance was also a diva during the promotional tour for Crazy Rich Asians, like acting icier than a snow cone, or rolling her eyes at Michelle Yeoh. One of Page Six’s sources say that Constance’s team has been begging her to act a bit more humble and “find some humility.”
I can appreciate a diva, especially one that gives JLo a run for her money. But it shouldn’t come at the expense of the crew. They already deal with so much bullshit. If Constance wants to out-diva JLo, then have at it. Just maybe channel it in a way that benefits those around you. Like loudly declaring that the food on set is gross, and that you’re flying in a private chef to make lobster for everyone. Then JLo will stage-whisper that only a basic bitch would eat just lobster, and that she’s bringing in a lobster, crab, and fillet mignon tower surrounded by an edible gold moat for everyone. Then Constance can defeat JLo by handing everyone on set a stack of $100s and telling them to “go buy something fresh, I’m pretty sure that food expired yesterday.” Everyone wins when you use your diva powers for good.
