Tyra Banks Came Out Of Model Retirement For The Cover Of SI: Swimsuit Edition

There used to be a time when the word “model” actually meant something. Now whenever I hear someone claim they’re a model I think to myself “Sure you are. On Instagram“.  Tyra Banks was amongst the last of real supermodels who’d cut bitches down with their smizing instead of putting them to sleep. Tyra is back to save the modeling industry from the Jenners and the Hadids by gracing one of the covers of SI: Swimsuit Edition.

Since Tyra’s retirement in 2005, she’s still had her hand in the world of beauty by terrorizing our television screens with America’s Next Top Model as well as her talk show The Tyra Banks Show (which ran until 2010) and her batshit mall theme park. People reports that this is Tyra’s third time on SI: Swimsuit Edition. Tyra made history as the first black woman to ever grace the cover during a time when Friends was still on NBC and cell phones were a luxury only afforded by doctors and drug dealers.

“My first one was 23 years ago, how crazy is that,” an excited Banks said on Good Morning America where she revealed her new cover. “I’m like damn — I’m 45 dog!”

This marks the third SI Swimsuit cover for Banks, 45, whose career was launched when she first starred on the cover of SI Swimsuit in 1996, with model Valeria Mazza, followed by a solo cover in 1997.

“Since Tyra’s first cover in 1996, she’s transformed herself into nothing less than a mogul, a cultural force and a supernova of inspiration and empowerment,” says SI Swimsuit Editor MJ Day. “She’s kind of the Swimsuit Issue ethos come to life, everything we know this franchise can be.”

Tyra is one of three models gracing her own SI cover along with Olympic Gold Medalist Alex Morgan and SI Model Search Rookie Camille Kostek. The theme of this year’s Swimsuit Edition is “Shattering Perceptions” and focuses on diversity and women’s empowerment as this issue also feature Halima Aden. SI also revealed the three covers to their Instagram page including Tyra wearing an eye patch as a cooch patch.

And here’s more of Tyra including her doing her signature “hoe, but make it fashion” pose.

These minute-models in the modeling game need to ask Tyra for tips on how to remain employed after their followers move onto the next hot piece of ass on their timeline, because modeling ain’t what it used to be. Plus, Tyra needs to school every last one of these new models on how to stop looking like a dead deer in headlights in every photo. I think it’s time for Super Smize to swoop in and save the game, with her crazy looking ass.
