Nobody Wants To Publish Woody Allen’s Memoirs

Looks like the dark web is the only place that Woody Allen will be able to release his memoir, as publishers reportedly want nothing to do with it. Since the #MeToo movement there has been a cultural shift in how we look at serial gross guys. As we all know, Woody married his step-daughter Soon Yi, allegedly dated a 16 year old in his 40’s, and has been accused of molestation by Dylan Farrow. Which has resulted in no American publisher wanting to put that creepy mug on an autobiography sleeve and hear about his life as a tortured artist.

According to The New York Times:

In the last year, Allen quietly tried to sell a memoir, according to executives at four major publishing houses, only to be met with indifference or hard passes. Before the #MeToo movement roared to life, Allen’s memoir would probably have set off a bidding war and commanded six or seven figures, given his cultural status. But with his career all but derailed by resurfaced allegations that he molested his daughter Dylan Farrow nearly three decades ago — allegations that Allen denies and that have left Americans unsure whom to believe — the prospect of publishing his memoir seems to hold little appeal.

Woody Allen could have gotten $3 million for his memoir in 2003 but he wanted more cash and did not bet on the #MeToo movement fucking up his money:

Although several biographers have tackled Allen as a subject, he has never published a straightforward memoir. In 2003, Allen was close to a deal to sell a memoir to Penguin for about $3 million, but Allen held out for more money. “For this I want a lot of money. The ball is in your court,” Mr. Allen wrote in a letter to his agent that was sent around as a proposal.

Some publishing executives used the word “toxic” when describing the challenges of working with Allen in the current environment, noting that while he remains a significant cultural figure, the commercial risks of releasing a memoir by him were too daunting.

Yikes. That’s a $3 million gamble that did not end well, because not many are fucking with Woody Allen anymore. Amazon will not release his new movie (although, it will be released in Italy), and actors like like Timothée Chalamet, Selena Gomez, and Rachel Hall donated all the money they made working with him and vowed to never work with him again. And a slew of other celebrities have also stated that they would no longer work with him.

The few supporters he has left are Anjelica Houston and his ride-or-die Diane Keaton. And since Anjelica recently went in on Diane for her movie choices, it looks like a Woody Allen buddy comedy starring those two won’t happen. Woody is not helping himself by defending Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein. Woody has been an old perv for so long that he forgets that old pervs are no longer invited to the party. I mean at this point even Pedo Bear would be like, “Umm I’m good. You’re just not the right look for me.”
