Taylor Swift’s Billboard Music Award Performance Included A Marching Band, And You Know What Happened Next

Taylor Swift performed her new singleMe!” at the Billboard Music Awards last night and it was a sugary, pastel wearing, catchy pop song MESS. It was over-the-top in a way that left me feeling like I just took some G-rated Mary Poppins acid and ate way too much candy. It was like a remake of La La Land that took place in a Lisa Frank trapper keeper. And it opened with something that unleashed the Beyhive!

According to Yahoo

Much like she did in her music video, Swift brought out a marching band in pink, a bunch of dancers in pastel suits, and cute synchronized dance moves. Oh, and they rode in on a big sequined umbrella. Of course! She also rocked some amazing pink tips on her ponytail and was bold enough to sing live, which is why we stan a legend.

Of course Swifties loved the performance. Others took issue with her using a marching band so soon after Beyoncé did it for Beychella.

…some people pointed out that using a marching band so soon after the release of Beyoncé’s Homecoming, which documented her Coachella performance last year, might have been too close to the other legend to avoid comparison.

And others pointed out that Taylor has done the marching band thing before, and Madonna did it at the Super Bowl, Gwen Stefani has done it, and the legendary Toni Basil did it back in the day. The last thing we need is the marching bands fighting. I picture A West Side Story fight but with drums and trombones and a surprise attack by a flute player. We are already a divided country, we can’t live in a world where Beyonce’s marching band and Taylor Swift’s marching band can’t get along!!!!!!

Also, Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco performed the song with Taylor and, he really needs to calm the hell down. I get he’s excited to be riding a sequined umbrella with Taylor Swift but he should’ve turned down that boner face. Although, in his defense, who wouldn’t be making a boner-face while thinking about all the money this candy-coated children’s song on meth is going to bring in.

Here’s the performance of “Me!’ in all it’s cavity-causing messy glory.

And here’s Taylor on the red carpet, wearing a giant Easter bonnet that should’ve been washed on delicate but was washed on regular.
