Alex Trebek Gave An Update On His Cancer Fight

Alex Trebek is such a cultural mainstay that it’s nearly impossible to imagine life without our collectively bitchy, know-it-all uncle. Back in March, Alex made the sad announcement that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. In a heartfelt the video message, Alex was characteristically pragmatic but surprisingly candid about his diagnosis and prognosis. Pancreatic cancer is one of the real bad ones. Like worse than a spidergram bad. But Uncle Alex told us that he was going to make it to Final Jeopardy, and fight it with all he’s got. And today Alex appeared on Good Morning America with an update. He’s tired, and sad, but “he’s fighting through it”. I’ll take You Got This, Alex for $1000, please.
Here’s Alex talking to Robin Roberts about chemotherapy giving him the sads.

Surges of deep, deep sadness and being depressed and having no idea why? Who’s been slipping chemo into my coffee?! Alex says he’s a wuss, but from here he looks like a hero. Can you imagine having to face that smug nerd James Holzhauer every day, for weeks on end? We should probably thank James though. I bet the thought of vanquishing him from Jeopardy! is one of the things motivating Alex to fight. Alex also told Robin:
“People all over America have been sharing their good thoughts, their advice, their prayers,” he said. “And I feel it’s been making a difference.”
“I’ve had so many contacts from people who have survived cancer,” he said. “I am now a 30-day survivor… I’m going to catch up to those other people.”
Here’s Alex’s initial announcement in case you missed it.
Alex has already survived kidney stones, ruptured disks, major brain surgery, and a thieving maybe-hooker named Lucinda, so I choose to believe his cancer doesn’t have chance in hell of ending his run.
