There was plenty of opportunity for some good old fashioned country music drama last night at the Academy of Country Music Awards (the ACMs, which are not to be confused with the CMAs, the other white meat of country music awards shows), but there was nary a whiff of grain alcohol-soaked card cheatin’, man stealin’, hair pullin’, cussin’ and a’fightin’, and hootin’-n-’hollerin’ at the event. The only scandal worth tellin’ a mule happened on the red carpet when Miranda Lambert, the savior of country drama, showed up looking like the cat who chicken fried the canary and ate it with a side of grits . She brought her new husband Brendan McLoughlin with her.
Last night marked the couple’s first red carpet appearance since February when Miranda announced that they had gotten married after only having known each other for three months. And doesn’t he look well rested and relaxed for somebody who has a 5-month old baby, somewhere, with his other, other woman.
Fans of high drama will be disappointed to learn that Miranda didn’t go the extra step to rub people’s face in it by tossing Brendan’s salad (or anybody else’s for that matter) right there on the red carpet. Instead, she kept it pretty tame and only took one small swipe at her ex-husband Blake Shelton who, according to Vulture, was there with his probable soon-to-be fiancee Gwen Stefani.
During her big medley performance, Lambert took another opportunity to stick it to him live, singing “Little Red Wagon” with the lyric change “I got the hell out of Oklahoma,” which used to read “I live in Oklahoma” during simpler times when she and Shelton shared a home there. (She’s been singing the new line for years, but never to his face.)
Unfortunately, Blake and Gwen had already left before her performance so I guess Blake wins this round, for those of you keeping count. It could be considered embarrassing that Blake walked out before Miranda’s set, but she doesn’t need him to embarrass her anymore. She’s perfectly capable of doing that herself as evidenced by this clip from backstage.

If you want to check out some real Cocaine & Rhinestones red carpet drama, you’ll just have to wait for the CMAs come November. The fashion at the ACM awards was a placid, pastel snoozefest which you can check out in the gallery below. Although, I will have a little toot of whatever Tanya Tucker is having.
