Here’s Jennifer Hudson Singing “Memory” From That Batshit “Cats” Movie

I wish Baha Men had cut a b-side to “Who Let the Dogs Out” called “Who Let The Cats In” because it would be a hilarious and fitting punchline to Tom Hopper‘s upcoming live-action Cats movie. This week we learned a little bit more about the movie as Universal Pictures held their 2019 CinemaCon and disclosed that the titular cats won’t be actual people. That means that instead of seeing Idris Elba and company slithering around in leotards and tights with tufts of fun-fur strategically glued on, we can expect to see something more in keeping with MC Skat Kat, which is far more disturbing.
The cats will appear as actual cats, and like the Broadway musical, the sets will be to scale so that the cats look cat-sized. Like Lily Tomlin in The Incredible Shrinking Woman.
Universal closed w/ a behind-the-scenes look at Cats; while we didn’t see what the cats will look like we can confirm that Idris Elba, Taylor Swift, James Corden etc are indeed dancing as cats via motion capture. Hip hop&ballet. The sets are practical &massive for ? perspective.

So, I guess scratch MC Skat Kat and replace that image with one from Garfield: The Movie? At any rate, one thing will be real, and that’s Jennifer Hudson singing. She closed out the presentation by a live performance of “Memory“, her character Grizabella’s big number.

Yep, the song is still a stinky dumpster full of hot garbage. But I love Jennifer Hudson’s voice (though I feel like she always oversings when performing live), and this production sounds just brokers enough to pique my curiosity. E! News reminds us:
In the Tom Hooper-directed film, Hudson will star as Grizabella, originated by Betty Buckley on Broadway and Elaine Paige in the West End production. The actress joins a very famous cast featuring the likes of Judi Dench, Idris Elba, Rebel Wilson and Taylor Swift.
The stars reportedly celebrated the wrap of the film in London this past weekend, though the film is not slated to hit theaters until December.
That gives Baha Men just a few short months to launch their big comeback!
