Chris Rock Made Fun Of Jussie Smollett At The NAACP Image Awards

The Jussie Smollett case is one of the more confusing controversies in American history since the outcome of the 2016 presidential election. It’s like – wait, he didn’t do it…no, he did…they were in whiteface…but I thought…nevermind. Chris Rock, who recently had an interesting race-based situation of his own co-starring his beyond sketchy friend Louis CK come to light, chose to cut through the confusion with some mockery. Chris Rock introduced the award for “Outstanding Comedy Series” at last night’s NAACP Image Awards by taking some shots at Jussie, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series but didn’t show up.

USA Today reports that Chris Rock opened his appearance by revealing that the producers had asked him not to make Jussie jokes. That’s like asking Nicolas Cage not to get drunk-married.

“They said ‘No Jussie Smollett jokes,’ ” said Rock, who was there to present Outstanding Comedy Series. But that didn’t stop him. “What a waste of light skin,” Rock cracked. “Do you know what I could do with that light skin? That curly hair? My career would be out of here! I’d be running Hollywood.”

You were running Hollywood until Pootie Tang! Chris continued to drag Jussie up and down the stage by his curly hair, much to the delight of Trevor Noah.

“What the hell was he thinking? You’re ‘Jessie’ from now on,” Rock continued, as cameras showed Trevor Noah cracking up in the crowd. “You don’t get the ‘u’ no more. That ‘u’ was respect. You ain’t getting no respect from me!”

Jussie Smollett flew from Chicago (which must be the ninth ring of hell for him right now seeing as the city’s mayor has basically replaced “Chicago: The Windy City” with “Chicago: The City That Hates Jussie Smollett”) to L.A. on Wednesday but didn’t attend the awards. He lost to Jesse Williams from Grey’s Anatomy.

Sure, Jussie Smollett allegedly/probably lost his mind and allegedly/probably screwed a couple of marginalized communities over by faking a hate crime to raise his Q-rating or whatever. But he also wasn’t in the audience chuckling it up at one of exhibitionist rub-n-tugger Louis CK’s comeback gigs. So he has that going for him.
