The City Of Chicago Is Demanding That Jussie Smollett Pay $130,000 For The Investigation

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the City of Chicago are keeping the foolery, fuckery, and craziness coming by dropping a $130k bill into the lap of Jussie Smollett for all the money that was spent on investigating what they claim was nothing but a shameless hoax for attention. The Cook County State’s Attorney may have dropped all 16 felony charges against Jussie for allegedly staging a hate crime with help from two bodybuilding brothers, but the FBI are investigating why charges were dropped and now the City of Chicago is threatening him with a lawsuit if he doesn’t pay that $130k bill. Well, I guess the City of Chicago has to somehow find a way to replenish their Police Misconduct Payouts fund.

Mayor Rahm and the Chicago PD are every kind of mad and claim FAME!!! is what got prosecutors to let Jussie off the hook in exchange for 16 hours community service and forfeiting his $10,000 bail. The city sent Jussie’s lawyers a letter demanding that he pay $130,106 for police overtime hours spent during the investigation. And they’re making sure that Jussie doesn’t write them a personal check for $130,106 and then cackle as it bounces all the way to Saturn. They want a money order or a cashier’s check and if they don’t get one from Jussie, they may sue him for three times that. via The Chicago-Sun

“Over two dozen detectives and police officers participated in the investigation, ultimately spending weeks investigating your false claims, including a substantial number of overtime hours,” the letter says. “As part of this investigation, Chicago police reviewed video and physical evidence and conducted several interviews, expending resources that could have been used for other investigations. Ultimately, the Chicago police investigation revealed that you knowingly filed a false police report and had in fact orchestrated your own attack.”

The city threatened to take legal action under the municipal code of Chicago if the actor did not pay the costs within seven days via a money order or certified cashier’s check. If he doesn’t pay, Smollett was threatened with a fine of up to $1,000. The city would also potentially seek up to three times the amount of damages, as well as court and collections costs and attorney’s fees, the letter threatened.

Jussie’s lawyers already responded saying that if anyone is owed anything it’s Jussie who deserves one hundred and thirsty thousand “I’m Sowwy” balloons from the mayor and the police chief for dragging an innocent man through the mud.

TMZ thinks that if Jussie doesn’t pay and the city takes him to court, it could lead to him losing his job on Empire. Because if the judge rules that it was more than likely that Jussie faked the attack and therefore should pay up, Empire producers will have a reason to fire him. That’s if Empire is even around then…

The ratings for Empire’s Wednesday night episode were an all-time low with just under 4 million viewers. That’s probably because we’re all busy watching a much more thrilling, riveting, ridiculous, and twisty saga called Law & Order: JUSSIE!. If the mayor wants to make some of that $130k back, he should start to get sponsors so he can start each press conference with, “Before I spew some more shit about this shitty mess, I’d like to tell you that another way to spew lots of shit and get skinny is with Flat Tummy Tea…
