Tumblr Lost Millions Of Users After Banning Porn

This post really only needs three words. Those three words being: “NO FUCKING DUH.” Tumblr recently banned porn and The Verge reports that they’ve lose a huge amount of users. You don’t say. As a FORMER user of Tumblr myself (mind your business), I can attest to the fact that it’s no longer bookmarked in MY browsers (mind your business). And I’m sure that it’s the same sitch for tons of other gentlefolk with chronic masturbatory habits. Just sayin’. (Mind your business.)

Tumblr had long been a cesspool of filth with all sorts of salacious content stored and displayed for everybody’s enjoyment. And then some assorted Marvel and Twilight fan-fic and drawings, with a bit of social justice outcry scattered about. It was great! Who didn’t have a porn Tumblr? You crickets can stop chirping now. Tumblr banned dirty content in December. This angered more than a few people and everyone into the porn aspect pledged to leave the platform. It looks like they weren’t playin’. User traffic has gone down by 30%.

Tumblr’s global traffic in December clocked in at 521 million, but it had dropped to 370 million by February, web analytics firm SimilarWeb tells The Verge. Statista reports a similar trend in the number of unique visitors. By January 2019, only over 437 million visited Tumblr, compared to a high of 642 million visitors in July 2018.

The Tumblr CEO pointedly told millions of users that they could go elsewhere for their thrillies and they did. And ugh, it’s not as much fun on Twitter because they’ll be some really hot scene and then a tweet from Trump above it and it’s like someone punched me in the boner. (The fact that I follow Trump marks me as more of a pervert than my obvious porn addiction.)

On December 3rd, when Tumblr first told The Verge that it would ban porn by the 17th, CEO Jeff D’Onofrio said in a statement at the time that users had other options. “There are no shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content,” he said. It looks like users have taken D’Onofrio up on his offer and gone to other sites.

In all honesty, there IS some dirty content left on Tumblr. It’s not like they can police all of it. Because in a place which might initially seem desolate and joyless, there will always be a stray threeway scene set in a really fake-looking locker room that managed to avoid fascist censors to keep hope alive.
