Alfonso Ribeiro Dropped His Lawsuit Against “Fortnite” About The Carlton Dance

Former high-hopes-having Alfonso Ribeiro has dropped his lawsuit against Epic Games, makers of “Fortnite”. Alfonso was suing Epic for allegedly ripping off his Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’s character’s trademark dance move – “The Carlton” – for a downloadable “emote” for player characters in the game. It’s not easy to copyright a series of physical movements from an almost 30-year-old sitcom so Alfonso is out that “Fortnite” check. No worries, though. It’s 2019 so they’ll probably re-boot Fresh Prince in a couple of minutes so just hang in there, ‘Fonso.

According to the AP, Alfonso’s lawyers filed docs on Thursday in L.A. federal court saying he’s “voluntarily dismissing the suit” against Epic.

There was no reason given for dropping the suit and Alfonso Ribeiro’s lawyers wouldn’t comment. It was probably due to Alfonso being denied copyright for “The Carlton” by federal officials last month. Without that piece of paper, you’re mainly showing a series of grainy GIFs of you doing “The Carlton” to the judge via Google Images and hoping that the defendants’ attorneys don’t dig up that 2012 footage of you admitting that you yourself ripped off Courteney Cox’s iconic rhythm-free dance suite from that Bruce Springsteen video to create your little dance.

The AP story also revealed that Alfonso tried it with another video game company – Take-Two Interactive – for allegedly using “The Carlton” in a game called “NBA2K16”. Alfonso has dropped that suit, as well.

There’s no word on whether “Backpack Kid”, in a related story, has dropped HIS lawsuit against the “Fornite” makers for allegedly stealing his “flossing” dance for the game. It would have been nice if they had (allegedly) stolen it before it infected all the children like an anti-vaxx loving measles epidemic. If I have to hear “Uncle J., want to watch me floss?” and then have to witness my nephew clumsily battering his sides as he tries to emulate that backpack brat one more time. And it’s not like you can wean him off the flossing and over to “The Carlton” because he’ll look at you like you just pulled up in a covered wagon from long ago pulled by elderly dinosaurs.
