Elisabeth Moss Might Replace Johnny Depp As The Star Of “Invisible Man”

Is anyone else suddenly picturing Elisabeth Moss covered in a boatload of scarves and accessories from Claire’s while sporting questionable dental hygiene? Johnny Depp is super-busy trying to pry $50 million out of Aquaman’s girlfriend’s pocketbook so he doesn’t have a lot of time to act in movies anymore. Hence the news that plucky Scientologist Moss might be replacing him as the main attraction in Universal’s upcoming Invisible Man, according to Variety.

Invisible Man is a remake of the old Universal horror film and was supposed to have been a part of the company’s proposed shared universe reboot of all of their horror properties ala the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first one was supposed to be Tom Cruise’s The Mummy. That tanked and so Universal nixed the “Dark Universe” idea. It looks like they’re still going with reboots, though.

Universal has tabled the idea of an interconnected universe and is reassessing how to keep the enduring characters relevant for a new generation.

“Saw” creator Leigh Wannell is writing and directing Invisible Man. But they’re out a lead.

Sources also indicate that Johnny Depp, who was originally tapped to play the title character, will not be involved.

Elisabeth Moss is only in “early talks”. No word on whether they’re genderswapping the main character which might actually be interesting.

The Handmaid’s Tale’s 3rd season begins this summer, and Moss is also co-starring in Get Out creator Jordan Peele’s next horror flick Us which opens this month. In the trailer (which is below in case you haven’t seen it already, but I’m sure you have), she’s crawling bloody across a floor so it looks like Lupita Nyong’o’s evil double family gets her. Still less horrifying than The Handmaid’s Tale.
