Ariana Grande’s New Japanese Tattoo Is Wrong

January 30, 2019 / Posted by:

Ariana Grande has finally responded to all the haters who have accused her of cultural appropriation. Ari got a new tattoo on the palm of her hand which was supposed to read “7 Rings” (the title of her latest single) in Japanese kanji. But it actually reads “small charcoal grill”. Getting a mistranslated Asian character tattoo is Ariana practically shouting from the rooftops, “don’t let excessive bronzer and trap-lite videos fool you, I’m a basic ass white chick through and through!”. Gwen Stefani wishes she had the nerve!

Ariana proudly posted her latest mistake on Instagram but has since deleted it, presumably because she was tired of defending her questionable life choices (but why stop now?). However, it’s still featured on her official Japanese Twitter account.

Jesus, all of Ariana’s sleeves must be so nasty. I’m no artist but I have to say, the symmetry is bad on this tattoo. It draws the eyes to her first two fingers and makes me wonder where they’ve been. According to Kotaku:

The kanji character 七 means “seven,” while 輪 means “hoop,” “circle,” “ring,” or “wheel.” However, when you put them together, the meaning is different! 七輪 (shichirin) is a “small charcoal grill” and not “seven rings,” which is written differently in Japanese.

So this…

Yesterday, Ariana spent some time trying to explain her choice. She says it hurt too much so she “left out” some characters on purpose. You can see her since deleted tweet about it in the post below.

Owie! Poor Ari. I guess Ariana’s never pushed up her sleeves (literally) and done an honest day’s work doing manual labor, because most people’s hands have a nice callous built up right where that tattoo is, thus the peeling. But hey, that’s her life. Her fans think it’s great, and they are legion. Don’t be surprised when Home Depot starts selling Barbie pink BBQ grates.
