Rihanna Is Planning To Launch A Luxury Fashion House Through LVMH

Everyone knows I’m a jeans and t-shirt kind of dude so whenever I hear anything about fashion I feel like Anne Hathaway in the first half of The Devil Wears Prada. And no, the makeover never happens. I’m pretty much Anne Hathaway all the time. However, I’m smart enough to understand that the news of fashion icon Rihanna gearing up to unleash a new fashion house under the powerful luxury group LVMH is a huge deal.

Just in case your idea of high fashion involves smoking a bowl before making it rain at the nearest TJ Maxx like me, LVMH is a French fashion house consisting of luxury brands Louis Vuitton, Moet, Dior, Fendi, Givenchy, and Hennessy. Earlier this week speculation began to circulate when Rihanna stepped out onto the ho stroll in a pair of some Star Trek ass sunglasses with the Fenty logo on them.

Rihanna was taking those glasses out for a test spin, probably tallying up how much she should charge based on the number of people who drooled over the sunglasses your grandma can get for $10 at the swap meet. WWD reports that RiRi’s fashion deal with LVMH will be historic, because her label will be the first one that the company has started from scratch since Christian Lacroix (not the bubbly water) in 1987. RiRi will also be the first black female designer at the company.  She’s already helped create a lingerie line through California based TechStyle Fashion Group and through her trademarked Fenty line she recently took a job as creative director for Puma.

This new luxury line through LVMH is just the next step in a career that’s moving further away from twerking and squawking half-naked on stage. Instead, now she’ll be selling half naked clothes to millions of people. That’s where the real money is anyway.

It is understood her collection with LVMH will span ready-to-wear, leather goods and accessories, and could be released in tandem with her ninth album, expected out sometime later this year, one source said.

For LVMH, the Rihanna line signals a further move outside its comfort zone of heritage brands as it continues to diversify its holdings, having recently invested $2.6 billion in luxury travel operator Belmond Ltd., owner of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train and hotels including the Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro.

My eyes automatically stopped at the words ready-to-wear and leather because what I’m picturing is the very first high end line of dominatrix gear that can be purchased at Bloomingdale’s. And accessories just means whips and chains since this is Rihanna we’re talking about. When she sang about S&M back in the day I knew this was where she was headed so none of this surprises me at all.
