Kim Kardashian Defends Kanye For Supposedly Defending R. Kelly (UPDATE)

There are still a few episodes left of Surviving Surviving R. Kelly, the reality show we’re currently living where artists who’ve worked with R. Kelly try to distance themselves from him. The last episode with Lady Gaga was kind of bullshit, and today’s episode starring Kanye West and Kim Kardashian is even worse. And Celine Dion being in it didn’t really help all that much either. Not even the Greatest Singer In Da World could save this shit show! According to Complex, Kanye was performing at a Sunday Service event where he sat on a stool and mumbled some shit while a choir sang a few of his songs. During one of the mumbling bits, Kanye made some observations about separating the art from the artist, indirectly alluding to R. Kelly and Michael Jackson.

Apparently, Kanye finally had something on his spirit that didn’t (directly) involve Drake. During the service, he was moved to preach on the works of R. Kelly, comparing him to Leonardo Da Vinci. Well, ok, not exactly.

In one of the clips recorded from the Kris Jenner-livestreamed event, Ye can be heard saying, “They just gonna pull up full documentaries on him.” He continues, “Then they gonna come with the Michael [Jackson] documentary. … We can all enjoy all their music all we want. I thought I wasn’t going to go there today. If we’re gonna tear down artists, let’s go ahead and take [Leonardo] da Vinci out the Lourve. Let’s take down all the art.”

I think what he meant to say was that it’s OK to enjoy his music, despite his terrible personality, since he honestly believes himself to be the second coming of da Vinci. But I don’t want to speak for Kanye. He already has his wife to do that for him. She #tooktotwitter to clarify his statements to make sure people know he’s not defending R. Kelly. He just thinks there should be a giant mural depicting Trapped In The Closet painted on the ceiling of The White House.

It’s true, he’s not condoning MJ or RK, but he’s also not condemning them. As Lady Gaga learned on the last episode, you have to condemn R. Kelly if you want to be taken seriously as an Oscar contender. Now, Celine Dion isn’t trying to win an acting Oscar, so she didn’t feel the need to make a statement about having worked with RK, at least not a written one. But according to TMZ, Celine is “in the process” of pulling her collaboration with Robert Sylvester from streaming services.

The song — “I’m Your Angel — was recorded in 1998 and appeared on her holiday album, “These are Special Times,” R. Kelly wrote the song but it did not appear on any of his albums.

The song reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for 6 weeks. It went certified platinum and sold more than 1.5 million copies. It was also nominated for a Grammy.

Ouch! That’s got to represent a good chunk of change for Robert. But Chance The Rapper beat her to the punch, and already pulled their colab, “Somewhere in Paradise”, without publicly announcing it. So Chance, I guess you da real da Vinci!

UPDATE: Kardashian mouthpiece of choice TMZ says that Kanye never mentioned R. Kelly and was only talking about his favorite subject. Himself, of course. They also posted video.
