Diane Kruger Is Tired Of Being In Nazi Movies

The woman who somehow got it into her head that leaving hot-ass Pacey from Dawson’s Creek was a good idea, Diane Kruger, is sick and tired of being offered Nazi movies because she’s an Aryan-looking German woman.

Diane is in that Welcome To Marwen flick which is getting SLAUGHTERED by most of the critics this weekend, so weep a tear for Steve Carell and director Robert Zemeckis today. She spoke to Vulture about her role as an evil witch doll (it’s a long story) in the movie and her parts in movies like Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds came up. In it, she played a German woman posing as a Nazi. And she feels that she’s played enough German women adjacent to Nazis for a lifetime, thank you.

I imagine life has to be interesting for a contemporary German actor when there is never a shortage of American movies about Nazis.

[Long sigh] I’ve been offered so many Nazi roles. You couldn’t believe. And I’ve never really wanted to do it. I’ll only do it if it’s more obtuse. Like with Marwen. Same with Inglourious Basterds. I never had any desire to be in that kind of movie to be honest, for obvious reasons, and I feel like it’s been done to death. How many movies do we need to see about that? That’s just my opinion. But watch, next year I’ll be in more Nazi movies, I’m sure.

Because a girl’s gotta eat! And she’s got a baby now.

Despite her fatalistic view of eventually ending up in all the Nazi movies, she does wish people would stop making them. Isn’t the History Channel’s nickname “The Hitler Channel”? That’s all they run on that channel. People out there obviously want to watch stuff about Nazis, Di. Sorry.

There have already been so many great movies done about that time in the past, though. What more do we need to say about that time?

Considering her nationality, you can get why Diane would like to distance herself from those roles if possible. But, unfortunately, Nazis aren’t a thing of the past in the slightest. I’m with her. The only Nazi I want to see on TV or the movies now is the one getting punched dead in the face.
