Ed Sheeran Responded To People Saying He Looked Like A Slob Next To Beyoncé

December 6, 2018 / Posted by:

It could be said that Ed Sheeran oftentimes looks like the mascot for hitting the snooze button 12 times and grabbing whatever looks cleanest off the floor. And as a society, we’re generally okay with that. Except for last Sunday, when Ed showed up to the Global Citizen Festival in Johannesburg, South Africa for a performance with Beyoncé. The internet roasted Ed up for his wardrobe choices, and Ed recently responded to that.

Seeing Ed performing while dressed like a college freshman on their way to trivia night at the pub isn’t crazy. But a lot of people thought he was just a little under-dressed in his jeans and t-shirt compared to Beyoncé, who wore a bright pink Ashi Studio couture cupcake wrappers gown.

The internet went wild. Some people tried to argue that high fashion is Beyoncé’s look, while laundry day is Ed’s. But generally, more people seemed to be mad that Ed didn’t match Beyoncé’s fashion energy for their duet of the song Perfect. People magazine says that Ed finally decided to weigh in on the Ed’s Clothing debate. He recently posted (before deleting) an Instagram story in which he wrote:

“People Are Angry Ed Sheeran Wore a Shirt while Beyoncé Wore Couture During their Global Citizen Performance. Swipe up to ‘get the look #dresstoimpress.

He later joked about where to find his “amazing fashion choices.” Beyoncé must not have cared that much, because People points out that Ed was invited to hang out with her after the performance to celebrate Jay-Z’s birthday.

Of course Ed and Beyoncé look like they’re dressed for two totally different events. Beyoncé looks like she’s ready for a baby shower thrown by the Countess of a very rich European country. Ed looks like he’s celebrating the day his mom let him borrow the car. But Ed is smart. If he also showed up in 50lbs of couture, the Beyhive would be pissed that he was trying to upstage Beyoncé. And then the Beyhive would declare war on Ed’s personal Beyoncé, Taylor Swift. And the world would end the second Taylor Swift takes aim at Beyoncé.
