Zayn Malik Isn’t Friends With The Rest Of One Direction Anymore

Vogue UK did a profile on One Direction’s moody, sexy one (I think that was his thing?) Zayn Malik, and he gave them some insight into his personality. We know he’s not big on deep conversation (example: his relationship with Gigi Hadid). But did you also know he considers himself to be an island? And apparently it’s one of those islands that can’t be found on a map, gets zero cell reception, and doesn’t accept mail from anyone including his former One Direction groupmates.

Zayn said this about not really talking to anyone:

“I have always been a bit like that, though—always a bit of an island. I don’t like to confer with too many people.”

Some of the people he’s not conferring with are Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson. Zayn says he’s just not friends with them now that they’re not working together. But…Zayn also implies any sort of friendship died because Niall, Liam, Harry, and Louis were gossipy little backstabbers.

“We went from theaters, to arenas, to stadiums. There was never any sort of bridge between. Just boom, boom, boom. I guess that kind of progression to any mind—but especially when you’re 17, 18 – it kind of affects you a little bit. People take it different ways – especially when there are five different personalities. The relationships had broken apart.

I ain’t spoke to any of them for a long time, to be honest with you. That’s just the way it is. There’s things that happen and things that were said after I left. Snide things. Small things that I would never have expected.”

After Zayn left in 2015, the group released a statement saying how sad they were to see him go, but how happy they were for the next chapter of his life. But it wasn’t long before the filed-down claws came out and some of 1D were poking at Zayn. Like Louis Tomlinson, who got into a little Twitter fight with Zayn after an old solo demo of Zayn’s was released. However, Zayn himself is just as guilty for snarking on One Direction; after he left, he explained that being in the group didn’t make him happy and that it never felt “real” to him.

I understand leaving a job and not talking to anyone after the door hits your ass, but Zayn also needs to realize that he probably shouldn’t completely burn that friendship bridge. There might be a time in the future when the former members of 1D decide to head out on a reunion tour, like four of the Spice Girls. But Posh turned them down because she doesn’t need the check right now. Zayn might want to fake a little friendship for the sake of his future bank account balance. Unless he’s got a David Beckham waiting out there…
