Steve Carell Is Joining Reese Witherspoon And Jennifer Aniston On Fake Morning TV
It took Michelangelo less time to paint the Sistine Chapel than it’s taking Apple to produce Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston’s show about morning TV. I kind of forgot this show was a thing since Reese tends to blab on mainly about her Big Little Lies sisters when she devotes any time about slumming it on the TV. Alas, the morning show drama is still happening, and it’s recruiting yet another comedy player to go serious brooding for this nonsense. Enter Steve Carell!
The Hollywood Reporter says Steve is going to play Mitch Kessler, a morning show anchor who is trying to stay relevant at a time when media is changing super fast. I guess Steve is supposed to represent every morning anchor on TV? Anyway, production for this thing is supposed to start next week, and it’s already been picked up for 20 episodes spread across two seasons. The script is an original, but the premise of the show is based around CNN reporter Brian Stelter’s book Top Of The Morning: Inside The Cutthroat World Of Morning TV. Reese and Jennifer better up their game because Steve already has a fountain of faux TV network material to choose from – like this!
This Apple thing still doesn’t have a title, and Reese and Jennifer still don’t have character names, per IMDb. One thing we can be sure of is those three are going to make a lot of moolah, especially the ladies since Reese and Jennifer’s respective production companies are backing the thing. Honestly, they could just do a reenactment of the days around when Charlie Rose got the can from whatever that morning thing on CBS is called (plus maybe have Reese reenact Ann Curry’s “good morning!” malfunction), and I’d be amused. What?! We have to rip some things from the headlines. It’s what’s given Law & Order: SVU 18,000 seasons!
