Rapper Jon James Died While Performing A Stunt For A Music Video

While filming a music video for his song “The Man” featuring Riff Raff, Canadian rapper Jon James plunged to his death while wing walking on a Cessna that was in flight. According to CNN, Jon wasn’t your average indoors type of Canadian rapper (I’m looking at you, Drake), Jon used to be a professional skier and apparently trained for months in preparation for the stunt. Jon turned to music after a number of skiing injuries, including a broken back and a shattered heel, ended his skiing career.

CNN reports:

During a music video shoot in Vernon, British Columbia, on Saturday, the rapper — whose full name is Jon James McMurray — was walking on the wing of a Cessna as it was in flight.

He walked too far out on the wing and made the small aircraft go into a downward spiral, his management team said.

“Jon held onto the wing until it was too late, and by the time he let go, he didn’t have time to pull his chute. He impacted and died instantly,” Ryan Desrochers with the management team told CNN in a statement.

Here’s the full statement from his team.

Earlier this month Jon posted some footage to Instagram of the video he was working on.

And here’s a video he made the day he died. Don’t worry, it’s not graphic at all, but it is sad, and eerie, and will make you think twice about ever getting into a plane smaller than a Lincoln Continental (or working with Riff Raff for that matter).

Fuck small planes forever and a day, that’s my motto. And stunts like this should only be attempted by trained professionals or if you’ve got Will Smith money.

Rest in peace, Jon James.
