Taylor Swift Continues To Be A One-Woman Voting Awareness Campaign

It was my understanding that Mariah Carey had totally solved America’s voting turnout problem the second she slipped on one of Diddy’s “VOTE OR DIE” t-shirts and thus inspiring every eligible voter in the nation to line up at the polls from now until the end of time. But apparently there are still who will consider sitting at home for the midterm elections on November 6th. Thankfully Taylor Swift has stepped up and made voting her mission of the moment.

About two weeks ago, Taylor Swift endorsed Phil Bredesen for Tennessee Senate and Jim Cooper for House of Representatives on Instagram, and encouraged her 112 million followers to register to vote (which thousands did). Then she reminded everyone at the American Music Awards to not just register to vote, but to get out there and do it. Taylor has issued yet another voting reminder to her fans.

Yesterday, Taylor posted a picture of her patriotic toes (that picture is definitely up on some weird foot website by now) to Instagram yesterday and provided a caption about early voting. Taylor is 28 years old, and says that when she first registered to vote ten years ago, she had no idea it was the sort of thing you can do early.

She also provided a link to Vote.org’s online early voting calendar, which lists the early voting times and dates for all states. There are people out there who will think, “Duh Taylor, we already know about early voting.” And then there will be people like me, who literally just learned about it in the last election I voted in. I had no idea there was this wonderful world of zero lines and patient old people at 3pm on a Tuesday afternoon. It’s God’s gift to voting. “Sorry, I believe that’s technically me?“, thought Taylor.
