Last month, Selena Gomez announced she was taking a break from magazine interviews and social media for the sake of her own sanity. Now it’s being reported that Selena has decided to take a break from her life in general in an attempt to recharge her batteries and get healthy after having a rough couple of weeks. According to TMZ, Selena has been in and out of the hospital recently, and she’s currently checked into a mental health facility.
Selena was hospitalized twice in the past two weeks at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Selena’s first trip to the hospital happened after she allegedly became “despondent and emotional” over a low white blood cell count that was related to her kidney transplant from a year earlier. She stayed in the hospital for a few days before being released. Unfortunately, her low blood cell count persisted, as did Selena’s emotional reaction to it, and she was admitted to Cedars-Sinai again late last week. Not long after she was admitted, Selena reportedly insisted on leaving, but doctors denied that request. That’s when Selena reportedly “freaked out,” and pulled an IV out of her arm. Several sources describe the situation as “an emotional breakdown.” Raise your hand if you too stopped momentarily after reading the part where Selena ripped out her own IV to shudder at how Trauma: Life in the ER it was.
During her second hospital stay, Selena to go to a psychiatric facility on the East Coast, which is where she is right now. She is reportedly receiving DBT therapy, which she has done in the past, to help her deal with her feelings about her medical condition (Lupus). A source tells E! News that professional help is exactly what Selena needs right now:
“Selena has been trying really hard recently to remain focused, and not let her health affect her. She has been actively writing new music, and moved to Orange County for a change of pace and a fresh breath of air. Ultimately, with all of her arising health issues, Selena started to feel super overwhelmed.”
Selena’s not-great later half of the year involved an interview with ELLE in which she claims she was misquoted and editorialized. The release of her upcoming film A Rainy Day in New York has been a mess. Plus, she’s had to suppress a mountain of gags over watching her ex Justin Bieber play husband in the press. I don’t know how long Selena is going to be away receiving treatment, but my hope for her is that she’s still there on the day Justin and Hailey Baldwin decided to get God-married. That way she’ll have plenty of support when she reacts to the details. “Yes group, let’s all follow Selena’s lead and roll our eyes at Justin’s attempt at a cheesy dove-release.”
