Last week, Kanye West said he’d left the “Sunken Place,” his temporary home for the past couple of years or so. It would appear he only had a temporary day pass to leave, because he was seen wearing a MAGA hat again.
Kanye said he was a supporter of Trump not long after Trump was elected President in 2016. He tried to walk back his support a few months later. Most recently, Kanye publicly attempted to clarify his whole “slavery was a choice” comment, and at the same time, he apologized for making such a comment while also being the owner of a MAGA hat. It almost seemed as though he was apologizing for the MAGA hat itself, but that’s clearly not true.
Kanye was at the offices of The Fader magazine today, and its publisher Andy Cohn tweeted a pic of him wearing a MAGA hat and a sweatshirt that reads “Colin Kaepernick” on the front. Not content to confuse both the left and the right, he’s also breaking Fashion Rule No. 1 by wearing white jeans after Labor Day.
According to Kanye’s explanation, it’s not the same MAGA hat worn by Angry Republican Facebook Aunts and Trump supporters. This one is very different. Kanye says he completely redesigned his hat, complete with new brim, slope on the front, and positive energy.

I have no idea what kind of so-called positive energy Kanye put into his hat or the process it required. Thread charged with positive ions? A snap with a positive magnetic polarity? Just thinking good thoughts while looking it? Or maybe he just put on his hat and though “I’m positive this is going to get me and my ego some much-needed attention.”
