Michael Moore Says Gwen Stefani Is Why Donald Trump Ran For President

Ska music makes us all get a little crazy, but that’s usually just from the good shit taken in the mosh pit at a ska concert. Alas, apparently it must have really crawled up Donald Trump’s ass because, in a not exactly 100% joking way, Michael Moore says former ska kween Gwen Stefani (or her rank on NBC’s payroll, more exactly) is what inspired his ass to run for president in the first place.

In a lengthy sit-down with The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the premiere of his Fahrenheit 11/9 documentary at the Toronto International Film Festival tomorrow, Michael talks all about how we only have ourselves to blame for the rise of Trump. Michael admitted to not being a tough-ass on Trump when they both appeared on Roseanne Barr’s old talk show in the 90s (talk about a different world!). Michael says even though Trump had talked about running for the White House since 1988, he finally pulled the trigger after finding out Gwen got paid more for doing The Voice than he did for doing The Apprentice. Let’s all let out a golf clap for women finally getting their due!

The story goes, according to Michael, that after finding Gwen’s vocal coaching was worth more than the phrase “You’re fired” to execs at the Peacock Network, Trump decided to wage war against the networking by proving who was more popular by…yup…running for president:

“He’d been talking about running for president since 1988, but he didn’t really want to be president. There’s no penthouse in the White House. And he doesn’t want to live in a black city. He was trying to pit NBC against another network, but it just went off the rails.”

If you believe Michael, Trump  was pleased as punch to see how big his crowds were and was just like, “Fuck it, I’ll do this.” We all know how it ended. Dammit, NBC, this is all your fault. Do us all a solid, and send over Blake Shelton and Adam Levine to the White House to offer Donald a crystal-studded swivel chair and a coaching role on The Voice starting in 2020. Tiffany Trump can even be his special guest with her proven “musical talent.” That might actually get him out of the White House!
