Ruth Wilson Says There’s A Big Story To A Recent Development On “The Affair”
The last couple of seasons of The Affair, like any long-term relationship, were getting a little stale. Sure, it started with hot waterfront boning in the Hamptons, but then it just dissipated to a bunch of tired tricks talking about feelings and not showing enough skin. Well, this season actually got interesting, especially when… (SPOILER ALERT AFTER THE JUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
…Ruth Wilson’s Allison got killed off in what may have been a murder. Most of us were a tad gobsmacked since she was, well, half the affair that gave the damn thing the title! There was a lot of speculation it may not have been a mutual decision because she had publicly noted she wasn’t making as much as co-star Dominic West even after she won a Golden Globe. Gayle King tried to get it out of her when she was on CBS to promote her latest role in The Little Stranger. Ruth basically said she couldn’t talk about it, but she did say she had never gone to Showtime to air any issues with pay disparity. The showrunner, Sarah Treem, basically shooed away people by saying they had all agreed the character of Allison had run her course.
Well, now TVLine is out with a report that says there’s a new profile on Ruth in The New York Times, and she’s giving more tea — kinda. She maintains her exit wasn’t about discrepancies in pay or other jobs, but she did say a LITTLE more:
“’It isn’t about pay parity, and it wasn’t about other jobs,’ Ms. Wilson said.
She added coolly, ‘But I’m not really allowed to talk about it.’
There was a meaningful silence. ‘There is a much bigger story,’ she eventually volunteered, urging me, more than once, to contact Sarah Treem, a writer and producer of the show.”
The NYT did reach out to Sarah, who gave the SAME official response about the character running its course like they already gave. Ok, honestly, what could have happened? She and Maura Tierney rarely have scenes together, so it’s impossible for there to have been lady drama despite everyone probably wanting that to be it…so it really comes down to my original theory that she got tired of dealing with Dominic’s chest hair that rivals any faux bearskin rug in the clearance bin at HomeGoods…orrr she likely just told Pacey Joshua Jackson she was Team Dawson and that Joey was a total moron for ending up with him in the Creek. That’s definitely it! You’re welcome. See, we can read right through your corporate speak, Sarah!!!
