Even though the sun is still shining and the calendar clearly says “August”, Starbucks has gone ahead and made it officially fall by launching Pumpkin Spice Lattes earlier than usual. As of today, you can put on your legs in Uggs and leggings, and walk them down to your local Starbucks and ask for as many pumps of liquid gold as you can handle.
According to Business Insider:
…Starbucks is in fact launching the Pumpkin Spice Latte earlier than it ever has in years past. While Starbucks has offered select customers access to the PSL in late August, prior to an official launch in the first week of September, this is the first time that the drink has officially debuted in August.
BI says that the decision to launch PSL early is because Starbucks has been having a rough go of things lately what with the having to shut all their stores for anti-racism training and threatening to snatch away people’s beloved straws. And what says “we’re committed to combating racism” better than sugary drinks that taste like dirt?! Here’s what Starbucks had to say:
“We know the Pumpkin Spice Latte is a beverage that Starbucks customers wait for with anticipation all year, and we’re excited to give our fans the opportunity to get their fall fix a little earlier,” a Starbucks representative told Business Insider in an email.
I don’t drink the stuff myself, but I am an interested party. I live in California so the only way I know the seasons have changed is when they change the menu at Starbucks. Not that I go to Starbucks. I’m from Berkeley so grind my own ethically sourced beans by hand and perform 20 minutes of elaborate chemistry like a goddamn communist before I get that first sip of morning brew. They I have to run outside and put the grounds in the compost bin. It’s exhausting, to be quite honest. But there are a lot of transplants here that you see parading around with their 31 ounces of liquid sugar. When the cups turn from clear (iced drinks) to white (hot drinks), you know that fall has arrived.
