John Lithgow Is Playing Roger Ailes In The Fox News Movie

If one more Roger Ailes movie comes out, we’re going to have a fantasy Fox News league. Actually, that sounds terrible and is probably what Donald Trump already does with his favorite blonde lady anchors. Showtime’s Fox News movie has already tapped Russell Crowe to play the late Darth Vader of cable news, and now the one that has Nicole Kidman as Gretchen Carlson (lol) and Charlize Theron as Megyn Kelly has now signed its Roger: John Lithgow.

Variety says that while Russell’s movie is more about Roger’s overall career and life story, the John version is going to be all about the whistle-blowing era of when reporters and staffers finally came out with their stories of getting sexually harassed by Roger Ailes. John just won an Emmy for playing Winston Churchill in The Crown, and he also once won for Third Rock From The Sun. I hope he brings some hard-ass Britishness and alien wack-a-doo-ness to his Roger because I’m sure the real Roger was concocted with the same recipe.

I guess the Russell version will be told from Roger’s perspective whereas the John version will be told from the women and whistleblowers. Since Roger was sort of the canary in the coal mine for the #metoo movement before it finally took down the tidal wave of creeps like Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey, the movie is obviously highly anticipated. I’m sure the Academy is already pre-engraving everyone’s Oscar because they have to do something to trump Oprah at last year’s Golden Globes. Oh, who are we kidding? They’ll be as tone deaf as always and give everything to some movie about an emotionally fragile white dude who is trying to overcome the need to fuck his childhood teddy bear. I don’t think that’s an actual movie in contention for this year, but I’m sure it will be now.
