Ariana Grande Joked She’d Marry Pete Davidson The Moment They Met, Sang A Tribute To Aretha Franklin

Ariana Grande continues to thrive. Her album just dropped, she’s in love and just last night, she appeared on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon and performed a tribute to Aretha Franklin. Of The Queen of Soul, Ariana said (via People Magazine) “she was so cute”, and now all I want to do is scream into the void. Hello? Is anybody out there?
Ariana also talked about having a crush on her fiance (they haven’t yet earned the grave accent) Pete Davidson, well before they started dating. When you’re young and in love, sometimes you just know it. Much like Pete knew it when he first met Ariana. Oh, and by the way, Aretha Franklin died and Ariana Grande sang the Tonight Show tribute.
According to Entertainment Tonight, there’s a track on Ariana’s new album called “pete davidson”; it’s about her unaccented fiance Pete Davidson. Ariana says that she joked about marrying him back when she hosted SNL in 2016.
“I left his writers’ room when we were writing skits and stuff for the show, and my tour manager was in the hallway, and I’m not a crushy person, like I don’t have crushes on people I don’t know, but I left and I like jokingly said to my tour manager, ‘I’m marrying him. 100 percent. I’m literally marrying him,'” Grande recalled. “And we weren’t even friends [at that time].”
Not even friends yet, can you believe it? Like I said, sometimes you just know. When you’re young, you’re full of emotions. They can, at times, be hard to contain. Especially when, at a tender age, you are singing a tribute to one of the greatest singers the world has ever known. People suggests that Ariana “shed a few” tears while singing Natural Woman accompanied by The Roots.
Here’s Ariana’s tribute to Aretha Franklin.
I did wonder what one of those background vocalists might have done with this song. People also said this:
Grande honored the late singer with powerhouse vocals reminiscent of Franklin’s stage presence wearing a glittering black suit and a high ponytail as she was accompanied by The Roots.
Vocals reminiscent of stage presence? OK. Page Six says that Ariana only performed the song at the last minute at Questlove’s behest. I have to hand it to her, that took a lot of nerve (a good 10-inches of it). Apparently she “broke down in tears” after the song was finished. She also paid tribute on Twitter the day Aretha passed.

The Queen always showed great reverence when it came to pop stars. Aretha would have approved of Ariana’s outfit, at the very least.
