Ruth Wilson And Gayle King Kind Of Talked About What Happened On “The Affair”

There’s a special breed of people like those of us who watch The Affair. Namely, that’s because we’re four seasons in, everyone sucks, and somehow we’re still watching them fuck up their lives over and over again in pretty houses. I just tell myself it’s because I pray Ruth Wilson‘s Luther co-star Idris Elba and the magic trouser snake are going to make a cameo if I watch long enough.

The episode two weeks ago really zinged us all with how Alison Bailey’s (played by Ruth) story arc progressed, and she dropped by CBS This Morning and was fielded questions about it from Gayle King. Check it out after the jump, but SPOILER ALERT! AND I DO MEAN SPOILER!

TV Line says Ruth only wanted to talk about her movie and couldn’t really talk about what happened to her character on The Affair. Two episodes, Alison died after committing suicide… or so we thought. This past week’s episode featured two Alison parts. The second featured her dying – but it wasn’t of suicide. Instead, her kinda-boyfriend Ben shows up, and in a fit of PTSD rage, kills her. It was quite the shock since the name of the show comes from the affair she had with Noah (played by Dominic West) during the first season. Show creator Sarah Treem said earlier this month that Ruth wanted to leave the show before the final season, but it didn’t exactly seem like that on CBS This Morning:

Ruth simply said she did want to leave but wasn’t allowed to talk about why she left, which really made Gayle. It didn’t take long for people to start speculating she was fired from the show because she shined a light earlier in the year on how she was making less than Dominic West even though she won a Golden Globe after the first season. Ruth did say she never complained to Showtime about making less than Dominic, so it’s really unclear what other reasons she would have for leaving. Variety has come out with an official Showtime response, and they claim everyone agreed Allison’s character had simply run its course, which is about as believable as when celebrities they respect each other after a breakup.

I think I know the real reason! Anyone ever see the amount of chest hair Dominic has? She DEFINITELY left because she got sick and tired of that lion’s mane getting stuck between her teeth when they had to do a scene together. If Ruth needs to floss, she’ll get some Glide.
