Tyrese Believes The Child Abuse Allegations Have Stalled His Career

There was a time where you couldn’t flip through a Teen People “25 Hottest Hotties!” issue and not see the face of Tyrese Gibson. Then the Fast and the Furious franchise happened, and you really saw him everywhere. But lately, he hasn’t had much on his plate and he claims it’s because of the family drama he was involved in last year.

Last year, Tyrese was involved in a custody battle with his ex-wife Norma Mitchell over their daughter Shayla that evolved into him being investigated for child abuse allegations. Norma accused Tyrese of spanking their then-10 year old daughter so hard she “couldn’t sit,” and claimed she was afraid he might take Shayla away to Dubai.

In between Tyrese pulling some supremely weird daddy shit (like wearing sweatshirts with Shayla’s name on it, flying a banner over her school and dedicating a live performance of “Let’s Get It On” to her), he was cleared of any wrongdoing in November. But all wasn’t good in Tyrese’s world. The Blast says that Tyrese recently filed court documents stating that money has gotten extremely tight for him ever since those allegations came out.

Tyrese claims he currently makes 75% less than he was making last year, before the allegations were made public. He says he now makes $51,000 a month compared to the $180,000 a month he was making twelve months ago. He allegedly can’t find any work in the entertainment industry, and all his income now comes from personal appearances, residuals, and royalties. His last two projects were The Fate of the Furious and appearances on Star, both in 2017. However, that’s not to say Tyrese can’t get work. His IMDb also shows that he’s got two gigs in the pipeline, Fast & Furious 9 and a movie titled Desert Eagle.

Hearing that Tyrese is crying over making only $51,000 a month has my broke ass thinking “Okay, and?“. But apparently money is tight because he has to pay $10,853 a month in child support. That leaves him with a little over $40,000 a month. He also claims his expenses are upwards of $113,000 every month. He says he spent $200,000 fighting Norma’s allegations, and ONLY has $130,000 in cash at the moment. Tyrese is airing out his financial woes in an attempt to get out of paying Norma’s attorney fees.

Tyrese has got to stop worrying about money. I’d say his first problem is spending $113,000 a month on expenses. Get on a budget and stick to it, at least until the next Fast and the Furious paycheck clears. But I call bullshit at him crying about one of his only sources of income being residuals and royalties. Excuse me? Forget about all the money he makes from the fast cars and Transformers. As long as BET keeps airing Baby Boy as often as they do, he’s pretty much set for life.
