“Designing Women” Is Getting A Reboot

Because nothing is sacred and we should expect the announcement of “The Bible 2: Here We Go Again”any day now, Hollywood is looking at what is left on the clearance rack at what TV shows haven’t been rebooted and trying them on for size…but some shit apparently has been staring them in the face for years now and it took this long to bring it back. It’s being reported that Designing Women is next up for a return to TV, and it even has the original creator, Linda Bloodworth-Thomason behind it…but what about Julia Sugarbaker’s monologues?!

Deadline says it’s been 25 years since the original ended its run, and Sony Pictures is heading up the new version. As a southern gay by birth, this is essentially the second coming of Christ we spent every Sunday morning planning for.

CBS is already bringing back Murphy Brown, and it already has a Hawaii Five-0 reboot, so it really should just rename itself TV Land going forward.

It’s unclear what direction the new show will go in, but clearly some new cast members are needed since Dixie Carter and Meshach Taylor have passed away (RIP). That being said, the original was highly political and campy, so a return of Annie Potts, Jean Smart, and Delta Burke making cracks about Omarosa and Donald Trump amid draping a wall of a study in chiffon before they end each episode with “And THAT, Margery, just so you will know and so your children will someday know, is the night the lights went out in Georgia!” Seems like a sure-fire ratings hit to me!
