Idris Elba Will Not Be The Next James Bond: Take 100

If you thought the recent flash floods in New York were due to global warming, let me put on my best Trump voice and say that you are “WRONG”. That excessive wetness was a perfectly natural human reaction to the news of a few days ago that Idris Elba and his people were once again in talks for him to play James Bond in the next installment of the soon-to-be panty wringing franchise. But now it looks like this vicious rumor was all made up to keep toying with our emotions, because Idris as Bond isn’t happening anytime soon (again).

The Hollywood Reporter says the rumors that director Antoine Fuqua had a conversation with Barbara Broccoli about Idris being Bond are not true.

Fuqua was said to have mentioned Idris Elba in conversation. “You need a guy with physically strong presence. Idris has that,” was how The Daily Star quotes what the Fuqua “pal” said the director had told Broccoli.

But a rep for Fuqua threw cold water on the story. “He never had a conversation with Barbara about the franchise or about any casting. It’s all made up stuff. Not sure how it got started,” the rep told The Hollywood Reporter.

A rep for Elba declined comment, but a knowledgeable source says no one from Elba’s team is aware of any overtures.

Idris himself seemed to confirm he’s not Bond, yet.

Like James Dean in Rebel Without A Cause, this yo-yo is he/isn’t he situation is “tearing me apaaaaaart!”

Do not talk to me again about this mess until Idris’ contract is signed on the dotted line, which gives us at least as year, as the next Bond film with Daniel Craig isn’t set for release until Nov. 8, 2019. I think it’s time we toss these Idris Elba as James Bond rumors, which have plagued us for years, aside for now and re-claim the power that Idris holds over us in form of photographic imagery. Otherwise, I just don’t know how we can all go on.
