Open Post: Hosted By A Gang Of Orphan Opossums At A Banana Buffet

That picture is a “tag yourself” meme in the making. You’re either the regretful opossum who has just realized they put too much banana in their mouth, the casual opossum who showed up late and will settle for a peel, the shameless opossum with zero gag reflex just choking the whole thing down without chewing, or the scandalized opossum in the lower right who is disgusted by it all.

Laughing Squid brings us a video of a pack of orphaned young opossums from a wildlife rehabilitation facility. The video is from 2014, so it’s safe to say all these little guys are all grown up, freaking out humans by nesting in their attics and BBQs. But back in 2014, they were little baby opossums waiting for bananas.

I’m envious of these little banana gobblers. I have a thing where the texture of a ripe banana is sure to set me gagging it up all over the place. So when I eat a banana, I too usually make the same gross wet mouth sounds, except all I get in return is several looks of disgust. Meanwhile, these opossums make it look cute. It almost seems like a deleted scene from Labyrinth; just lots of squishing sounds and floppy puppet ears. I half expected the camera to turn 180-degrees to see they were being fed by a David Bowie look-a-like in a peroxide mullet wig. If only they were so lucky.
