Angelina Jolie Hit Back At Brad Pitt, Says Child Support Is Not A Loan

Ding ding ding, the fight bell has been rung, and it’s time for round 3,894 in the custody battle between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. If I’m to continue with this boxing metaphor, this might be where both Angelina and Brad would touch gloves, before she defiantly spits her mouth guard in his face and has to be pulled away by her trainer. That’s right, this mess has gotten much messier.

This week Angelina filed a petition demanding Brad start ponying up “meaningful” child support for their six kids. Brad shot back claiming he’s handed over hundreds of thousands of dollars a month in child support, as well as an $8 million loan so Angelina could buy a house. People received a response from Angelina’s lawyer Samantha Bley DeJean defending her choice to file the petition.

“What has been filed by Brad’s side today is a blatant attempt to obfuscate the truth and distract from the fact that he has not fully met his legal obligations to support the children.”

Samantha claims Angelina was allegedly forced to buy a new house after Brad kicked her and the kids out (while allegedly keeping everything inside), and that he did loan her money to find a new place. But he’s charging her interest on the loan and keeping her on a strict repayment plan.

Samantha says Angelina will honor the loan, but she’d like to see some actual money, because “a loan is not child support.” Samantha also says that “to represent it as such is misleading and inaccurate.” She also sort of called Brad a cheapskate.

“Angelina has had to shoulder the majority of [the children’s expenses] without his contribution for the past two years. Child support is not optional in California. Typically a father of means would pay these expenses voluntarily without the need for a request or court order.”

Angelina wants Brad to start paying 50% of their six children’s expenses, and wants retroactive child support. But according to UsWeekly, Brad maintains that he’s always been cutting checks, and larger ones than Angelina. Brad says he’s paid at least $1.3 million in child support. He might be handing over cash to Angelina, but according to TMZ, he’s definitely not doing it with any direct contact.

Sources tell TMZ that Brad has been spending a lot of time this summer in London to be closer to the kids, and that a judge has approved he can see the kids for 10 hours a day, with four consecutive visits in a row. The only issue is that all visits and hand-offs with the kids are reportedly handled through nannies and assistants. The sources say that two years on, and things between Brad and Angelina are getting worse, not better.

You might think that Angelina would dive head-first into work in an attempt to forget about this mess, but apparently she’s doing the opposite. The Sun UK says that Angelina has recently dropped out of the live-action Peter Pan/Alice in Wonderland mash-up Come Away. Angelina was cast as Peter Pan and Alice’s mother, with David Oyelowo as their father. She was supposed to be on set Monday, but she was a no-show. A rep called production and only said Angelina would not be coming to work, and now everyone is scrambling to figure out whether they should wait or recast her role.

I can see why she might bail. Why spend all day pretending to live in Neverland, when you already spend most of your time on an adjacent island called Never Not Being Dramatic Land.
