Drake’s been stuntin like Evel Knievel with his most recent crop of music videos off his latest album, Scorpion. First he ran around Miami buying people Pringles and getting my girl Odalie fitted with some shoes from Saks Fifth Avenue she can’t wear to work for his “God’s Plan” video. He followed that spectacle with his video for “I’m Upset” in which he reunited the cast of Degrassi Jr. High: The Wheelchair Jimmy Years. Now Drake’s doing it again with an elaborate music video for “In My Feelings“.
It helps to have a bit of background before watching this one. A while ago a comedian named Shiggy did himself, and his career, a huge favor by posting a video of himself dancing to “In My Feelings”. He called his little dance “The Shiggy”. It went viral and the #inmyfeelings challenge was born. People started popping out of their cars and doing The Shiggy #inthesestreets.
Here’s the OG Shiggy Shake (nobody calls it that but me, don’t use that in public unless you want to sound like an idiot who doesn’t know that they’re talking about, like me!)
Now here’s Drake’s official video starring Phylicia Rashad as uptown Clair Huxtable.
Wait, so Drake is from New Orleans now? This child don’t know where he belongs. He’s like Canadian Caine. Did you stay for the closing credit? You should have, because there are cameos of Drake’s favorite Shiggy Shakers including Will Smith doing it on top of the Széchenyi Chain Bridge in Budapest, the Queer Eye Fab 5, Ciara, Ryan Seacrest and a camel!
Drake is very successful at crossing over, it’s honestly quite impressive. Pusha-T may have destroyed him on a skills/savagery level, but Drake is the only one who’s song was such a dance craze that the dorks in the CBS This Morning newsroom were doing the dance and issuing a warning to kids not to jump out of a moving vehicle whilst Shiggy Shaking.
Pusha-T better get working on some sort of Pusha Polka dance craze if he wants to save face!
