Roseanne’s Apology To Valerie Jarrett Also Came With Some Unsolicited Hair Advice

I hope the irony is not lost on her?

Roseanne Barr gave her first official TV interview, after swearing she didn’t trust TV and would interview herself (which…didn’t exactly go well). Roseanne clearly found a TV personality she trusted, and what do you know, the honor went to Sean Hannity of FOX News. Roseanne appeared on Hannity yesterday to discuss the tweet that cost her a show. Roseanne offered up explanations and apologies for the offensive tweet she made at the expense of Valerie Jarrett two months ago. But lest you think Roseanne has learned her lesson and is walking the road to repentance, she also managed to get in another rude jab at Valerie.

Roseanne began the interview by stressing that her tweet calling Valerie the baby of the “Muslim brotherhood” and “Planet of the Apes” wasn’t racially motivated, but political. Roseanne says she still doesn’t really understand how people saw it as racist, that the tweet was taken out of context, and that she was “so shocked” at the reaction. She also argued that all races should be coming together and asking where their tax money goes, not talking about her tweet.

Around the 14:30 mark in the video below, Sean says that if he had Valerie’s phone number, the first thing he’d do is call her up and apologize personally. Roseanne replied that she’s already been apologizing to Valerie for two months, but that if she got the chance to do it personally, it might go something like this:

“I’m so sorry that you thought I was racist, and that you thought that my tweet was racist. Because it wasn’t; it was political. And I’m sorry for the misunderstanding that caused my ill-worded tweet. And, you know, I’m sorry that you feel harmed and hurt. I never meant that. And for that I apologize. I never meant to hurt anybody, or say anything negative about an entire race of people, which I think 30 years of my work can attest to.”

Then Roseanne threw this in:

“Plus I’d tell her she’s got to get a new haircut. I mean, seriously. She needs a new haircut.”

And I would hope that if that hypothetical phone call ever happened, Valerie would shoot back with: “I generally try not to take style advice from someone who looks like they sell pyramid scheme essential oils on Facebook, so BYE.

TMZ spoke with Roseanne today about her interview, specifically about her haircut joke and whether it distracted viewers from the important things she had to say. Roseanne must have used up her last apology, because she told TMZ: “They hate jokes. They should fuck off.” Well okay then.

Here’s the second part of Roseanne’s interview with Sean Hannity. Sean asks her if she might have multiple personalities inside her head telling her to say dumb stuff. Roseanne says that she doesn’t, thanks to years of therapy. That’s too bad; I think we can all agree she really could have used an extra inner voice two months ago to tell her to delete Twitter from her phone.
