There’s more good news about Demi Lovato. As previously reported, she doing well and is awake and responsive. And it looks as if Demi, who was hospitalized two days ago for an apparent drug overdose, will likely be heading to rehab as soon as she gets out of the hospital. That’s what her family is currently making plans for. According to Entertainment Tonight, Demi’s family is actively looking for a rehab facility she can check into right away.
“Demi is recovering and her loved ones are so incredibly thankful she has pulled through. They know how lucky she is to be alive and are relieved she’s getting another chance,” a source tells ET. “Her family is going to do everything in their power to help get Demi back on track and are making plans to get her straight into rehab. She is a fighter and has beat this in the past, so they know she can live a clean and sober life again. Her mother is by her side.”
Apparently, Demi is also seeing visitors. In fact, Page Six reports that her one-time, on again, off again boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama visited with her for about 2 hours yesterday. The two finally ended their 6 year relationship in 2016 but have remained friends. I didn’t think hospitals allowed visitors to wear strong cologne or poon-hound scented lotion, but perhaps they made an exception in this case.
We’ve also learned that meth may have been the drug that sent Demi to the hospital. Page Six reports that a nurse told police, in an incident report, that Demi “used methamphetamine leading up to her overdose”. Clues also indicate that it may have been a combination of drugs that led to her being in a really bad way.
It’s unlikely that Lovato overdosed on meth, however, as Narcan, which was reportedly administered at the scene, is used for opioid overdoses, not for overdoses of stimulants
TMZ reports that the incident occurred after an all-night party at Lovato’s home and that she refused to divulge what drug she’d overdosed on except to adamantly deny that it was heroin.
Since Demi had been partying all night, it seems reasonable to assume a combination of drugs may have been used. Demi’s drugs of choice in the past have included Oxycontin, so perhaps it was that, not heroin, that necessitated the use of Narcan.
Demi’s management team must be relieved that Demi may finally get the help she needs and back into treatment. TMZ says they’ve been worried about her for the past several weeks and even staged an intervention.
Demi refused and continued to party, instead. Other sources tell us she tried to make it seem like everything was okay, but her struggle became obvious shortly before Tuesday’s overdose.
Addiction is a real son of a bitch. It sounds like everybody’s rooting for Demi, her family, her team, her fans, and even this weird Wilmer Valderrama puppet.
